STAR batsman Jon Sore concedes Swindon will be heading into this weekend blind as they prepare to take on mystery opposition in the shape of newcomers Frenchay.

Frenchay plied their trade in the Bristol & Somerset Division for the last two seasons, and Bristol & North Somerset before that, but were transferred into Glos/Wilts ahead of the 2015 campaign.

The teams therefore have limited knowledge of each other ahead of their showdown at the County Ground on Saturday.

However, with three straight victories under their belts in recent weeks, Sore says it should not really matter who Swindon find themselves up against.

Frenchay, meanwhile, have found consistent form hard to come by so far this summer and had lost three on the spin before they triumphed over Apperley last time out.

“Looking at their results you would say they have had a mixed start,” said Sore, who hit 98 not out in Swindon’s win over Biddestone last weekend.

“We don’t know much about them as we haven’t really played them much. They are from the Bristol area but for one reason or another they’ve ended up finding themselves in our division this season.

“We always know we are in for a tough game whoever we play and this one will be no different, but sometimes it’s good not to worry about the opposition and just focus on your own game.

“If we play the level of cricket we have done in the last few weeks we have a really good chance of coming away with another good result.”

The victory over Biddestone followed successes over Gloucester City Winget and Tewkesbury, and Andrew Staff’s men are now up to fourth in the table, 16 points off the pace currently being set by leaders Rockhampton.

Sore may have taken many of the plaudits for Swindon’s recent success as he has racked up 439 runs in their eight league games so far at an average of 73.17, but he was quick to share the praise with his teammates.

“I think we are five wins and three losses so we have turned it around quite nicely as we were two wins and three losses,” said Sore.

“We have pulled ourselves up the table and are fighting near the top. We’ve won the last three matches in a row and we’ve played some decent cricket in that time. The confidence in the camp is up and everyone has chipped in and is doing their bit.”
