LECHLADE coach Luke Sellers is hoping his side can take inspiration from overseas batsman Brad Dial.

The South African, who signed last summer after guiding his country to victory in the U19s World Cup, has an average of 94.73 going into this weekend’s game with Potterne.

Lechlade have only won four games this season, three of those coming when Dial has scored a century, but rather than being a worrying stat for Sellers he is hoping that the rest of the team can gain inspiration from it.

“Brad is a fantastic cricketer and any side that have him in their team, scoring that many runs, is going to look a little bit like a one-man show,” he said.

“I think there are individuals in the team who have under-performed, and they would probably hold their hands up and say that.

“I don’t think it is a worry, I think a couple of guys need to have a focus on what they can do better, because we can’t rely on one guy to score hundreds every week.

“He was very unlucky with his run-out at the non-strikers end last week, with the ball flicking off the bowlers hand onto the stumps.

“It's probably one of the most unlucky ways you can get out, and the only way sides are going to get him out at the moment, the way he is playing.

“We believe he is able to go onto that next level and we will do everything we can to help him.

“Rather than worry about other people not performing and relying on Brad, I would rather they looked at what Brad does very well and his attitude, and if they can be inspired by that then we will be alright.”

“Because it is a new division, our aspirations are probably to maintain where we are.

“We have seen all the teams around us and there is no one frightening.

“We just need to start improving on our errors, because if you make the same mistakes week-on-week then you have nobody to blame but yourself.”

Lechlade, who have only won once in their last six games, face a tough test when they travel to top-of-the-league Potterne this weekend.

“Potterne is a tough place to go, but if you can beat them at their place then there is no bigger victory in this league. It would be a fantastic springboard for the last bit of the season.”
