SWINDON head into Saturday’s game with Burbage & Easton Royal full of confidence having enjoyed a fine run of form.

Andy Staff’s side kicked off the season with defeats to Rockhampton and Burbage, but the 52-run loss to this weekend’s opponents sparked their season into life.

Since then Swindon have suffered just two defeats in their last eight games, a run of form which has seen them lift themselves to fourth in the table.

With the top three separated by just two points batsman Marc Williamson, who hit his first century for the club in last weekend’s win over, believes Swindon can muscle their way in.

“We are fourth in the table and we’re about 20 points off the top but I think we have won six of the last eight, so we’re high on confidence,” he said. “We’re definitely looking upwards and we’ll just see what we can do between now and the end of the season.

“You’d probably think we need to win seven of the last nine games if we are going to have any chance of winning it. We’ve got our selection settled in the last few weeks and that’s really making a lot of difference.”

The last time the two sides met at the County Ground the visitors cruised to a comfortable victory courtesy of a fine innings from Luke Woodcock, who was left 113 not out as they set Swindon a target of 254 to win.

Opening batsman Williamson was out for a first ball duck in reply, and despite a knock of 102 from Jonathan Sore, he was not supported as Swindon struggled to 201 from their 50 overs.

“We played them in the second game of the season and they are quite a good side on their day,” added Williamson.

I think their New Zealand overseas player got an unbeaten 100.

“It’ll be another tight game and it is known to turn down there so we might change our side slightly depending on that but we’re fancying ourselves against most teams we play at the moment.”
