PURTON will be playing for their Wiltshire Division futures this weekend, but skipper Aaron Lee says they are in the best position going into their crunch match with Marshfield.

Lee’s side sit in sixth place in the league table, three places and 18 points above Great Bedwyn and Winsley in the drop zone.

But with the restructuring of the leagues expected at the end of the season, there is a risk for Purton that three teams could drop out of the Wiltshire Division.

“Worst case scenario three teams are going to get relegated now because there have been a few reshuffles in the leagues,” said Lee.

“There are less than 20 points between us and the bottom, it is so tight. It is imperative that we do enough now.

“We have got to try and keep an eye on what is happening around the county. With our availabilities this year we have done well to get into the position we are in.

“We are the top of the ones that are battling, so it has got to be even harder for the teams below us to get above us and if we had to take one of those five positions going into the weekend we would take ours.”

Lee knows the task that awaits them at Ashwicke Road is not going to be an easy one, with fourth-placed Marshfield having beaten Purton by 49 runs at the end of June.

“We have really got to work hard for the win, and it is not going to be easy because they are a good side,” added Lee.

“James Williams has been on really good form this year and he was dropped twice at our place before he got 10 runs I think, and then he went on to get a 100.

“We can’t afford to drop catches again because it is going to ultimately cost us.

“You’ve got to try and not put too much emphasis on what is at stake. You have obviously got to make the players aware of it, but all we can do is go out there and play our best.

“If we lose then it is not through lack of trying.

“It will be a tough ask but I am more than confident we have got a team that can win on Saturday, let alone get enough points to stay in the league.”
