SWINDON’S Craig Miles has helped his Gloucestershire side to a six-run win over Surrey to clinch the One-Day Cup.

Miles may not have shone in the win as he was one of Jade Dernbach’s six wickets when he was caught by wicket-keeper Gary Wilson, with Gloucestershire setting Surrey a target of 221 to win.

The former Purton player was also expensive with the ball as he went for 24 runs off just three overs, but that didn’t matter as Gloucestershire had Surrey all out for 214 with three balls remaining.

Gloucestershire held their nerve to pull off an unlikely six-run victory over Surrey in the Royal London Cup final at Lord's.

Jack Taylor's contribution with ball and bat ultimately proved decisive in the tensest of finishes, as Gloucestershire defied Dernbach's career-best bowling, and his hat-trick for good measure.

The once perennial Lord's final winners were also delivering a memorably heartening farewell for Geraint Jones - whose hard-working half-century in his final match rescued a competitive 220 all out.

Surrey then fell just short on 214 all out, after a third-wicket century stand between Kumar Sangakkara (60) and Rory Burns (56) had appeared to put them on course for a comfortable chase at one stage.

Instead, two wickets fell to David Payne in the final over - teenager Sam Curran and Surrey captain Gareth Batty - as the result was sealed with three balls left.
