PURTON bowler Craig Miles is hoping that the trajectory of his career is on a steady rise after an impressive season at county level.

After an injury-hit campaign in 2014, the 21-year-old paceman took 46 wickets at an average of 25 as Gloucestershire finished sixth in Division Two.

Miles ended the season on a high as he helped Gloucestershire lift the Royal London One-Day Cup against Surrey at Lord’s before being called up to the England Performance Programme for the first time this winter.

That training camp in Dubai came to an end on Tuesday and Miles is confident that if he keeps performing to his full potential, then he will soon be noticed by the England selectors.

“At the start of the season, my aim was to have a good campaign at Gloucestershire to hopefully be selected on the EPP and I had a fairly steady season and was able to achieve that,” he told the Adver.

“That was a stepping stone for me, or the next step on the ladder that I was aiming for, and if I can get myself established and perform around the top players in the country, then the whole ambition is to continue moving forward and hopefully make the full international step-up in a few years’ time.

“In terms of the county stuff, you can only do what you do there as regularly as you can throughout the season and then when you start putting in performances for the EPP or the Lions side, that is when you get noticed.”

Miles will now enjoy some deserved downtime but feels, with Gloucestershire, he is at a good place to continue his progression.

“Overall, I thought it was another good season and I moved forward with my game but it is also good to be involved in a club that is starting to win trophies and be consistently challenging across all formats,” added Miles.

“I am just going to take it step by step and not look to put too much pressure on myself, but at the same time, if I can look to put a few performances in this winter, then hopefully over the next two or three seasons I can make some good progression.”
