SWINDON Cricket Club are on the hunt for a new head coach as they prepare for what is promising to be an exciting summer for the club.

Temperatures outside may be struggling to get into double figures but Swindon chairman Tomas Foreman is already getting set for his team's West of England Premier Cricket League season.

Swindon are on the lookout for two coaches, one for the senior cricketers and one for the junior set up, with the two individuals working closely together to develop the strength of the side.

Having worked hard on their fundraising and with the facilities being invested in heavily over the last couple of seasons, the club are now diverting more of their funds towards coaching to achieve their plans over the next three to five years.

“We are looking for a new head coach,” said Foreman.

“Although the kids are getting a really good standard of coaching from enthusiastic and passionate level one and level two coaches, what we are really missing is that experience you can only really get from someone who has coached at a higher level and player at a higher level, and is dedicated to that profession.

“The way cricket is going at the moment, in the higher leagues, more often than not, you have got players that are paid to be there and that is not really a model that Swindon Cricket Club wants to emulate on a long term basis.

“The way to address that is to focus on grassroots cricket and encourage the best talented youths from the Wiltshire area to come to Swindon.

“Hopefully, then those players feeding through into our senior side puts us into a position where we don’t need to go the way a lot of other clubs are going.”

For Foreman, the summer can’t come around quick enough and he is confident that Swindon are heading into the campaign on a firm footing.

“I’m very optimistic ahead of the new season,” he added.

“Where we are at the moment; we’re on as solid a foundation as we have ever had in terms of personnel and in terms of the facilities we have got, and I am very excited.”
