ASHUR Morrison’s future with Wiltshire has been thrown into doubt.

The county team manager Neil Shardlow was left unhappy that the Corsham skipper decided not to make himself available for last weekend’s MCCA Unicorns Knockout Trophy match at Bedfordshire.

Instead, Shardlow says the top order batsman, who could not be reached for a comment, put his club’s West of England Premier League Premier One opener at Bath ahead of his county commitments, top-scoring with 52 as Corsham fell to a 142-run defeat.

“It is disappointing that Ashur put his club before the county,” Shardlow said.

“If he wants to make his club his priority, then I have to make a decision whether I look to bring someone else in instead.”

The Wiltshire boss has decided to omit Morrison from the squad for this Sunday’s visit of Suffolk with Swindon’s Jon Sore drafted back into the 12 after featuring during pre-season.

However, Shardlow has opted to give Steve Bullen a second chance this weekend after he arrived late at the meeting point and was made 12th man for the 38-run defeat to Bedfordshire.

“Steve Bullen requested to meet us on the morning. However, he arrived late,” Shardlow explained.

“This is not what we expect from our players. We expect the right discipline.

“Steve apologised, but when he got to the ground, I made him 12th man. He travelled all the way up there to carry water for the day.”

Wiltshire will be looking to get their Group Four campaign back on track following the loss to Bedfordshire last weekend, meaning that they have now won one and lost one in their opening two contests.

The county have two matches to go, starting on Sunday as Suffolk visit Warminster’s Sambourne Road.

The East Anglia visitors are likely to arrive with former Essex paceman Mervyn Westfield in their squad.

Westfield, 28, was handed a five-year ban by the England and Wales Cricket Board in 2012 for admitting his part in a spot-fixing scandal that involved former Pakistan international Danish Kaneria.

He was also convicted for conspiracy to defraud and was sentenced to four months in prison. Westfield was given special dispensation to play club cricket in 2012.

This year, he was allowed to play 2nd XI county cricket and Minor Counties cricket before his ban comes to an end next year.
