PURTON captain Aaron Lee says that he has not been surprised by his team’s fine start to the season.

After the opening month of the new WEPL Wiltshire campaign, Lee’s side lie second in the table, having won three of their four matches – the other being abandoned because of the rain.

Purton will be looking to maintain their momentum tomorrow when they make the trip to Marlborough.

“I said at the start of the season that we have got a side that is capable of beating anyone in this division,” said Lee.

I knew that we had a really tough start to the season playing two strong sides in Swindon and Westbury, but we got the wins.

“We had to carry that on against Malmesbury (last weekend) because, no disrespect to them, you can’t go and beat Swindon and Westbury and then relax against Malmesbury.”

Last season, at the Savernake ground, Purton made the most of the testing conditions to bowl the hosts out for 95, however, Lee’s men limped over the finish line with only two wickets in hand.

Lee added: “They are good side and it can be a tricky place to go and it can be a bit of a sticky wicket.

“When we played them last year we were at opposite ends of the table, they were up at the top and we, how shall we say? Weren’t.

“But we managed to get them out for around 100 and we got home, even if we did lose a few wickets along the way.

“But we can go there this weekend full of confidence. Their overseas player (Zwelibanzi Homani) is playing really well and already has two or three hundreds to his name.”

Purton will be looking to be back to full strength with the return of Tom Bowler and Adam Woolford, while Xander Pitchers will be aiming to bounce back after he was dismissed for a five-ball duck during the five-wicket win over Malmesbury.
