LECHLADE continued to push at the top of Premier Two Glos/Wilts as they recorded another victory over Biddestone at the weekend.

The hosts, who are second place in the table, elected to bat despite the damp conditions and soon found themselves in trouble after losing Joe Breet and Brad Dial early on.

It was then down to Tom Young and Benny Ellis to kick-start the match for Lechlade and the duo managed to take the score to 84.

Skipper Martin was pleased with his own performance, scoring 64 not out, as well as that of the team, saying: “It was a good performance and was backed up by the field.

“It’s important to keep winning after some slip-ups, the young players have done well they know the level they are playing at.”

The scoring was stuttered and both sides would have been content with the score at 141-3 after 37 overs.

After a tough start the home side then began to find their feet and gain some momentum.

Ellis fell to Dwaine Perry for 73 and Perry then took another two wickets but captain Martin remained.

Both Liam Smith and Jock Jamieson-Black chipped in with 12 and 14 to boost the score to an impressive 231-8.

A winning Biddestone reply looked unlikely when Matt Unwin was run out by Liam Smith, despite George Linde and Chris Baker making steady progress.

The introduction of Jock Jamieson-Black changed the game with his left-arm spin causing all sorts of problems for the opposition, helping to bring about a swift end to the match with Biddestone all out for 205.

Martin added: “It was a great team performance.

“It is important to keep winning to keep us in contention, everybody is in good spirits.”

“Jamieson-Black bowled really well, if he can carry on and the other bowlers step up we can’t go far wrong.”
