SWINDON were left with mixed feelings after being unable to find one run to earn them victory over Westbury.

Captain Andrew Staff admitted he was disappointed with the tie but still insisted there were positives to take from the game.

“It was really good, we looked like we could win it a few times and we looked like we could’ve lost it a few times too,” said Staff.

The home side won the toss and elected to field, with Richard Mills the first to go for the opposition after being caught out by Staff.

Westbury began to grow into the game, Dan Gill and Daniel Gibbs managing to score steadily before the former was bowled with the score on 155-3.

Westbury went on to post 230-5 but Swindon’s reply got off to a disastrous start when they began to chase, two early departures in the shape of Jonathan Sore and Alex Knill leaving them in trouble at 14-2.

Some order was restored when Sam Page and Marc Williamson dragged the score to 109 before the latter was run out, only to be joined by partner Page leaving the home side at 109-4.

Dean Williamson worked well with partner Liam Tucker and again with Douglas Baartman, with whom he shared a partnership of 89.

It was Baartman who was the first to go, bowled for 46 from just 26 balls before Williamson was caught out for 51 which left the home side at 229-7 and needing two runs to take the victory.

The responsibility fell to Staff and Harry Chevis, but although the skipper scored one run which took the game to a tie at 230-8, partner Chevis failed to register.

Cameron Baden was also unable to get his side across the line when he was caught out, leaving the match was all square.

Captain Staff added: “I’m pleased with the performance and the team spirit but slightly disappointed we couldn’t cross the line.

“There were a lot of good things to take from the performance, I was happy we applied ourselves and we built some good partnerships.

“We are going in the right direction."
