ROYAL Wootton Bassett remained at the head of affairs in Division One of the Wadworth 6X Wiltshire League as Zimbabwean ace Tendai Maruma’s century guided them to a 10-wicket triumph over Corsham 2nd on Saturday.

Three wickets each from Daniel Batchelor (3-36) and Jubedur Rahman (3-16) ensured Corsham’s innings was halted in the 44th over on 174, Andy Davis hitting 64 and Charley Reed 49.

Bassett’s openers were untroubled in the reply, Maruma striking 103 not out with Sam Lawro similarly intact on 55.

Bear Flat continued their pursuit of the leaders as they put Nationwide House to the sword by 63 runs.

Himanshu Suri (3-34) and Stuart Archer (3-35) helped House to restrict Flat to 198-9 as Rob Wilson scored 48 and Mike Smythe (40) anchored the innings.

However, the reply came up well short and was finished by the 37th over, Jon Clarke scoring 47 runs but Josh Parkyn taking 4-28 to leave House stranded on 135.

Division Two

SWINDON United Churches recorded their first victory of the season against Beanacre & Melksham on Saturday – owing largely to a mammoth 207-run second-wicket partnership between Chris Gilchrist (126 from 82 balls) and Danny Hunt (85 from 110 balls).

Gilchrist struck 13 fours and four sixes, whereas Hunt only scored 16 runs in boundaries but Churches’ middle order collapsed in the face of disciplined bowling from Andy Footner (5-29) and Roy Veacock (3-61) and they finished on 287-9.

The Churches bowlers did the damage early after tea, captain Richard Martin (3-20) helping to reduce Beanacre & Melksham to 41-4.

Number six Chris Singh batted aggressively to post 65 and received good support from number eight Abi Footner (17 not out) but Beanacre & Melksham were all out for 166.

Churches fell to a 69-run loss against Swindon NALGO in their second match of the weekend on Sunday.

Chris Gilchrist (3-32) and debutant off-spinner Edwin Hodgson (4-33) shone for Churches as NALGO reached 196 all out, with Matif Raja scoring 50.

Hunt (44 from 98 balls) and Matt Runkel (20 from 25 balls) started well in reply and Churches were 99-3 at the midway point of the chase but succumbed to 128 all out as Sanjay Chauhan (3-10) and Sarfraz Khan (3-32) put the squeeze on.

Division Three

PAUL Clark hit 87 and Mark Colyer an unbeaten 59 to guide Potterne 3rd to a four-wicket success over Wroughton Wranglers - their first victory of the season. Mark McMeeking hit 75 of Wroughton’s 225-5 in their 45 overs, but Potterne got home with two balls to spare.

Division Four

ROB Atkinson’s 78 helped Marlborough 2nd to a winning 261-9 against Wanborough, Vital Guntaka adding 57 and Raghu Tupurani 41 in a 78-run triumph as Wanborough finished on 183-8.

Division Five

BLUNSDON batted first against Biddestone 3rd and scored 161 all out in 36.4 overs, James Mundy hitting 55 and Dave Bott 32 as Joshua Boulton took 5-17.

In reply, Biddestone were all out for 111 off 27.4 overs, Chris Casey scoring 49, while Dave Bott took 4-15 and Arul Ramasamy 3-22 in a 50-run success.

Division Six

ROYAL Wootton Bassett 3rd took over at the top of the table after a 61-run win over Hinton Charterhouse 2nd.

Bassett’s 169 all out was centred around a score of 47 for Morgan Marsh-Ballard as Dave Griffin (27) and Mike Tyrie (24) also contributed. Matt Botham’s 2-11 and 3-16 from Sam Kingsbury restricted Hinton to 108 all out.

Dom O’Neill delivered 5-2 in seven overs as Swindon B kept Heytesbury & Sutton Veny 2nd to 148 all out in their clash, before Kurtis Marsden’s 78 guided them to a three-wicket victory.

Division Seven

PURTON 2nd stayed out in front as Deepak Ramani took 5-13 in their six-wicket success over Burbage & Easton Royal 2nd. Burbage were dismissed for 154 in the 40th over and Neil Little’s 68 not out got Purton home in the 37th.

Division Eight

WARMINSTER 3rd leapfrogged Lacock 2nd at the top as they saw off Swindon NALGO 2nd by 132 runs. Graham Ashman scored 73 of their 253-7 before Stewart Lisowski took 3-30 and Graham Cuthbertson 3-12 to restrict Nalgo to 121 all out.

Division Nine

GREG Smith struck 44 in leaders Chippenham 4th’s 183-8 against Wanborough 2nd before Joe Neale took 4-4 in five overs to dismiss Wanborough for 102.
