SKIPPER Freddie Martin hailed a comprehensive display from his Lechlade side as they maintained their fine start to the season with an assured victory over Goatacre.

Lechlade, who have been bested just once so far this summer, racked up their fourth win in Premier Two Glos/Wilts as they saw off the Goats by 112 runs.

Batsman Brad Dial top-scored for the visitors with a knock of 98 from 92 balls but Martin believes that a host of fine individual performances contributed to his side collecting maximum batting and bowling points.

“It was a really good performance. We batted really well and we bowled really well,” said the Lechlade captain. “Brad Dial was great with the bat but so was our opener, Tom Young, who got us off to a good start.

“On paper, the scorecard doesn’t really do Goatacre justice because the game was in the balance at one point.

“After drinks, Tom Barnes managed to get Liam Dawson out and we took six wickets in four or five overs.

“It was a great result for us and we’re really happy with how things are going at the moment.”

After a delayed start, Lechlade were invited to bat first, with the match reduced to 45 overs.

Joe Breet and Tom Young (48) got off to a rapid start and they had 50 on the board within seven overs as they punished some wayward bowling.

Young also enjoyed a fruitful partnership with Dial but the Lechlade tail collapsed, with the hosts’ Matt House and Giorgio Rigali helping themselves to two wickets apiece as Martin’s men were dismissed for 264 in the 45th over.

Goatacre got off to an equally quick start, with Liam Smith unable to find a length and Breet bowling too much on leg stump, but the two eventually found some rhythm and Lechlade man Breet saw off both openers in consecutive overs.

Smith soon also hit the stumps and Goatacre had slumped to 64-3.

Dial and Martin slowed the run-rate but Hampshire’s Dawson looked in fine form and, with good support from Toby Horton, had taken the score to 136-4 at drinks.

However, with the first ball after drinks, Barnes bowled a full toss, which Dawson hit down the throat of David Novais at deep mid-wicket.

Benny Ellis took 3-16 in just over three overs as Goatacre were dismissed for 152 in the 29th over.
