LECHLADE captain Freddie Martin is looking to re-close the gap on league leaders Cheltenham when they travel to Warminster this weekend.

Martin’s side fell to a two-run defeat to the pacesetters at the Manor Ground last Saturday which enabled them to establish a 17-point gap at the top of the Premier Two Glos/Wilts table.

However, Martin is remaining positive and with 11 games of the season still to play, knows that they have to remain focused and is not looking past this weekend’s task.

“Cheltenham were a very good side and I think, on paper, we are probably the best two teams in the league,” he said.

“But there are so many other teams that have destructive players in their line-ups that can take a game away from you very quickly, so there is still a long way to go.

“We are only 16 points off the top of the league at the moment and we are not even halfway through.

“We have got to look to bounce back strongly this weekend.

“We were able to do that last time we lost and we want to build some momentum again and go on a bit of a run.”

Lechlade travel to Warminster with Tom Davie’s side having secured a 10-run win over Chippenham last weekend.

Martin will not be taking their hosts lightly but believes they have the momentum to put their title tilt back on course.

“Warminster is always a tough place to go,” he added.

“They are a good team and every game we have had against them in the past has been close, so we are expecting another difficult match.

“It was a massive shame to lose the last game as we felt we should have won it.

“We are still in good spirits and no one got really down about it and we are looking forward to this weekend now and trying to get another win.”
