A FIVE-WICKET haul for Corsham's Joe King boosted Wiltshire's hopes of a first Unicorns Championship Western Division win of the season before Devon fought back on the opening day at Sandford yesterday.

King swept through the hosts' middle to lower order for figures of 5-55 from 16.3 overs after Wiltshire had won the toss and gone into the field on day one, dismissing Devon for 251 inside 67 overs.

However, despite a promising start to the reply, the visitors themselves were pegged back late in the day as they closed on 105-5.

M Curtis top scored with 59 for Devon in their innings but with Jake Roberts also taking 3-77, meaningful partnerships were largely hard to come by for the home side.

Potterne's Luke De Souza (40) and wicketkeeper Patrick Greishaber (47) shared an opening stand of 85 to get Wiltshire's reply off to a good start, but they then lost four wickets for three runs in under seven overs to leave the match delicately poised heading into the second day today.
