FOR LECHLADE, every match carries more importance than the last right now, and Saturday’s trip to Biddestone is no different.

Freddie Martin’s men remain locked in a fierce battle for the Premier Two Glos/Wilts title and despite beating Gloucester City Winget last weekend, their lead at the top of the table was cut to six points.

Cheltenham are the team currently breathing down Lechlade’s necks, the Gloucestershire outfit having moved up to second last weekend, but a host of other sides, including third-placed Rockhampton and Goatacre, who are fourth, remain in the picture, leaving plenty of scope for twists and turns before the end of the season.

On Saturday, Lechlade travel to northwest Wiltshire to lock horns with fifth-placed Biddestone and opening batsman Joe Breet is primed for another crunch clash.

“It’s still really tight and I know that Cheltenham had a big win and moved up to second at the weekend but all I know is that things are in our hands,” said Breet.

“We’ve got some big games coming up and we’ve still got to play most of those teams that are below us.

“It’s an exciting time at the club and we know that things are in our control, so if we get things right, we’ve got every chance of staying where we are.

“We know that Biddestone are a dangerous side and it’s going to be a tough game.

“Their overseas player is batting really well at the moment and he’s one of the leading run-scorers in the league, and they’ve got Dwaine (Perry) too, who can also score plenty of runs.

“It’s going to be a tough game for us but we’ll go there ready to perform and hopefully we can get a good result.”

After missing the last two weekends through holiday, captain Martin returns to the Lechlade line-up tomorrow.
