JON Sore believes that Swindon should be aiming to lay down a marker when they make the short trip to Malmesbury tomorrow.

Andy Staff’s side, who were beaten by two wickets at Westbury last weekend, are currently sixth in WEPL Wiltshire and look destined for a mid-table finish this season.

On Saturday, they travel to The Wortheys to take on second-from-bottom Malmesbury and opening batsman Sore reckons that, with summer 2017 in mind, now is the time for his team to begin picking up some good habits for next season.

“I think that it’s going to be a very different game to the Westbury one – we’re going to enjoy the last few weeks of the season but we won’t be going there light-hearted,” said Swindon’s Sore.

“It’s not going to be an easy game – there haven’t been any in this league – but I think that we need to send out a message to the rest of the league for next season.

“We’ll go to Malmesbury looking to win and we’ll try and be as prepared as we can for it.

“It’s the time of year where you want to try and put some form together that you can take into next season.

“But I also think that these last few weeks are a good opportunity to maybe bring a few players into the first team.

“Westbury were desperate for points because they’re going for the title but Malmesbury will be desperate too because they’re fighting right at the bottom of the table.

“I think that it’s going to be a really good contest.”

Swindon claimed a comfortable 119-run victory when the two teams met at the County Ground in June, Sore firing his team to victory in a rain-reduced encounter.

Meanwhile, Purton are also looking to get back to winning ways this weekend having been agonisingly beaten by three runs at Marlborough last time out.

Aaron Lee’s men are still in with a chance of the title as they are only 15 points behind leaders Marshfield and host Great Bedwyn tomorrow.

Purton plundered a mammoth total of 307-6 on the way to a 88-run triumph when the two teams last met back in June.
