SWINDON opener Jon Sore is hoping that the conditions won’t be a leveller tomorrow as they look to avenge their defeat to Marshfield.

When the two sides last met back in June, the Broadleys ground lived up to the hosts’ name and Swindon slumped to a nine-wicket loss after being bowled out for 122, with Marshfield romping to victory in less than 22 overs.

But the recent good weather means that the wickets have now got harder and drier, making life a lot better for batsmen.

However, the Swindon opener is expecting Marshfield to arrive at the County Ground like a bear with a sore head following their chastising defeat to WEPL Wiltshire league leaders Westbury and District last weekend where they were bowled out for 62.

“We are looking to put things right from when we played them last time,” Sore said.

“The wicket was incredibly wet that day and we just didn’t play the conditions at all.

“I’m sure the wicket at the County Ground will be a lot better this weekend. It will be quite dry and dusty, that will suit the batsmen like me.”

Purton, meanwhile, will look to keep their slim title ambitions alive when they make the trip to basement boys Devizes.

Aaron Lee’s men sit in third place, 12 points behind in-form leaders Westbury, who also have to play Devizes, with three games remaining.

Lee said: “Westbury have a bit of a gap now and we could win our last three games and that might not be enough to finish top but I think we’ve had a good season.

“The last four seasons have been good for the club. We’ve finished first once and been runners-up twice.”
