ONLY a win will do for Lechlade according to bowler Chris Harwood as he and his teammates head to Corsham this weekend.

Freddie Martin’s side put in a strong performance in their opening Premier One fixture as they comfortably dispatched Bedminster by seven wickets seven days ago.

Following that win, Harwood thinks his teammates will remain focussed on the job in hand as they aim to get back-to-back wins at the earliest possible opportunity.

“It was good to start with a comprehensive victory to let everyone know that we aren’t here just to mess about,” he said.

“If nothing else, the win was a signal of what we are going to try and do for the rest of the season.

“Nobody expects anything less than to go to Corsham and get another win. Whether it will be as easy as the last one is another question but it would be nice to go back-to-back in the first two.

“Although we are all there to win, and to win well, everyone was enjoying themselves in the changing rooms which is what you want in a team.

“It will give us the best chance to be in the top one or two in the league."

After making his debut in last week’s win, Harwood admits he is looking forward to travelling to Corsham as the 22-year-old hasn’t played there before, despite visiting the ground on numerous occasions.

“I’ve never played them before but I have been there plenty of times because I know their old wicket keeper (Steve Bullen) very well,” added the former Worcestershire academy quick. “From what I can remember, it is a lovely ground and hopefully we will get a slightly better deck than the one we played on last weekend, but I look forward to playing there.”

Corsham, who finished third last year, lost their opening game of the season when they went down by one wicket at Downend.

However, they will draw some confidence from the fact that Australian all-rounder Remano Esau was just four runs shy of registering a century in that defeat, while the bowlers will be looking to bowl tighter lines after conceding 20 wides.
