PURTON captain Aaron Lee will be hoping that his side will be able to put in a solid all-round performance ahead of the visit of Devizes tomorrow.

Although his side claimed a 25-run success over Marlborough last weekend, Purton required their bowlers to get themselves out of the mire.

After being dismissed for just 137, Lee’s side hit back to bowl their opponents out for 112.

However, Lee knows that his team will not be able to get away with that kind of performance this weekend.

The visitors to Purton arrive having shocked Swindon by two wickets last Saturday and in the process, handed the County Ground men their first defeat of the season.

“We know that they are going to come here full of confidence,”said Lee. “But we have had quite a bit of success against them over the years.

“We know that we have to improve the bat. We have bowled well this season but haven’t really put together an all-round performance.”

Purton, like many clubs at this time of the year, are having to put together a makeshift first team with players unavailable through work commitments and exams.

“On Saturday (against Marlborough), we were probably without five or six first-team players,” added Lee.

“We are like a lot of clubs at the moment. We have got players doing their exams, away at university or they are having to work on a Saturday.

“When you are a small club like ours, it can be a bit of problem trying to put two teams out.

“I don’t think it is just us who are suffering, I think it is happening to a lot of cricket clubs all over the country.

“But the players that have really stepped up to the mark and made themselves available have done a really good job.”
