SWINDON skipper Alex Kill hopes his side’s tie against Trowbridge will have shaken any lingering complacency out of their WEPL Wiltshire campaign.

After an unbeaten start to the season, the wheels came off the County Ground men’s progress at the start of this month with back-to-back defeats to Devizes and neighbours Royal Wootton Bassett.

Kill’s side halted that slump by restricting league leaders Trowbridge to 196 all out on Saturday, although the skipper was frustrated that Swindon were unable to see the job through in west Wiltshire.

“Trowbridge batted first and got off to a flyer,” said the Swindon captain.

“We always felt that a wicket was just around the corner, though, and once we turned to spin, they soon started to tumble.

“The lads battled well to bring it back and a total of 196 was good for us considering what we thought we could have been chasing after the first half-hour.”

While Kill was unable to break the winless streak, he remains upbeat about the result, despite it being a draw.

Inconsistency has proved a problem for Swindon so far this year as they have failed to follow up on a win in their last two attempts, Kill blaming complacency.

“I think before the game, Trowbridge would have been more disappointed with the result, but by the end, I think we felt as though we had missed out on a great opportunity to take the win," said Kill.

“Of course we would have loved to get back to winning ways, but most importantly, we didn’t lose any ground on the top team.

“It was a vast improvement from the previous two games so there were a lot of positives to take away.

“Perhaps we became a bit complacent after a good start to the year. We have hopefully put that behind us now and realise the importance of every game.

“We can’t afford to drop any more points if we want to be up there by the end of the season so will have to ensure that doesn’t happen again.”

Royal Wootton Bassett were able to record yet another win as they swept past Calne at the weekend.

Darren Beasant’s outfit claimed a seven-wicket home win, finishing on 171-3 after Calne were dispatched for 168.

Purton were unable to pick up a win as they slipped to a defeat at Warminster.

Aaron Lee saw his troops dismissed for just 168 having earlier had a tough time in the field as the hosts racked up 299-6 to set themselves up for a 110-run triumph.
