SWINDON have been crowned Swindon Indoor Cricket Association Knockout Cup winners after a successful Easter weekend.

Liam Tucker’s men put a dominant display in their semi-final against Coastal Cobras 3rd as they began the hunt for silverware and batting first, Swindon amassed a huge 123-3.

Alex Kill hit 28, skipper Tucker added 26 not out and Marc Williamson made 22 before Chris Aubrey was then the pick of the bowlers with 2-12 as Swindon got their hands on the ball, restricting Cobras to 51-5.

Swindon were forced to do battle with Cobras 1st team in the final after they overcame Asians 1st in the other last-four contest.

After Tucker lost the toss, Cobras asked Swindon to bat and although not as free-flowing as in their semi, Swindon started well before faltering in the middle of the innings.

A late flurry saw the team to a healthy 113-3, with Kill (38 not out) and Tucker (25 not out) again the chief run scorers.

Defending the total, Swindon made a perfect start as they took a wicket in the first over with a sharp stumping off the bowling of Kill.

Tucker’s troops continued to make scoring difficult for the Cobras and they finished their innings on 74-6, with Kill (2-23) the pick of the attack.

Following the game and trophy presentation, the players from both sides showed their appreciation for the match officials, scorers and organiser Shaz Khan, with respect to all the work he puts into running the SICA League, a job made much harder this year due to the snow.

There was also success for Swindon 2nd at the weekend as despite losing a tight game to Tigers, they look set to be promoted to join the 1st team in Division One next year.

This represents a big success for the side, who only a few years ago and contain a number of young players who had never played indoor cricket before.
