SWINDON skipper Alex Kill is hoping his side can continue with the momentum gained at the end of last summer into the start of the 2018 campaign as they begin their WEPL Wiltshire season at Warminster tomorrow.

The County Ground side concluded the 2017 season with three wins on their way to a fourth-placed finish in the table, just behind local rivals Purton.

The arrival of new faces meant a period of adjustment for the first team last summer, but Kill is banking on those changes having bedded in as they embark on the new term.

“Last season we had quite a few new guys in the team which took a bit of adjusting to,’’ he said. “We finished on a good run of form and with those guys now settled, hopefully we can carry that momentum into this season, get off to a strong start and continue that form for the rest of the summer.

“Every year we are in it to win it. You have to have that self-belief and confidence in cricket or you will find yourself slipping further down the table.’’

Jake Goodwin’s departure to Premier One side Potterne was the only notable exit during the off-season with the club’s breeding of new young talent from within continuing.

“We have kept a very similar squad to last year,’’ he added.

“We are lucky that we have a lot of young guys who are only getting better and we try to work hard to bring on our own players.

“Jake Goodwin is our only person departing as he heads for Potterne. We wish him the best of luck for the year and hopefully he scores a bucketload of runs.’’

Tomorrow’s opponents were a place behind Swindon in the standings last term and Kill added: “I’d be very surprised if Warminster weren’t up there at the end of the season.

“It will be a testing game to start us off for the year but we have the team and the confidence that we can beat anyone in our league.’’

Elsewhere in the division, Purton host Calne on the opening day with Royal Wootton Bassett travelling to Marshfield, while in Prem Two Glos/Wilts, Lechlade go to Westbury.
