CHRISTY Millar’s century helped Swindon 2nd make it three wins from three as they beat visitors Box by 62 runs in Division One.

Millar scored 123 of Swindon’s 248-5, while Harry Chevis chipped in with 46 not out.

Alex Williams (67) and Jordan Welsby (49) led the Box response but they were still only on 186-7 by the time their 45 overs were up.

Potterne 2nd remain top of the table, thanks chiefly to Paul Macaulay’s five-wicket haul in a seven-wicket success over Winsley.

Macauley (5-24) restricted Winsley to 150-9 and Potterne chased that down inside 26 overs, finishing on 151-3.

Nationwide House were left to rue some below-par batting as they went down by 95 runs at home to Great Bedwyn.

Nick Davies (98) and Robert Palmer (81) helped Bedwyn post 297-7 and although Nick Clarke, Jonathon Clarke (both 59) and Dominic O’Neill (41) batted valiantly in reply, every other House batsman fell for a single figure score as they were dismissed for 202 as Chris Blundy took three wickets.

Bear Flat finally emerged from their slumber to record a first league victory of 2018 – a 51-run success at home to Avebury.

Batting first, the Bears were indebted to Chris Bence’s 118, which formed the basis of their 227-5 total. Mark Gunning and Henry Smith contributed 47 and 36 respectively.

Some tight early overs meant that Avebury were always behind in their run chase, although John Rheinberg’s entertaining 87 not out gave them hope.

However, the visitors were eventually bowled out for 176 as Shreyas Malhotra and Joe de Souza claimed three wickets each.

DIVISION TWO

SWINDON NALGO won the town derby against Swindon A by 100 runs to remain top of the table.

Mudasser Rafiq (67), Zaheed Abbas (58) and Ahmed Hassan (54) all made half-centuries as NALGO posted 290-7 before Sarfraz Khan and Abrar Qureshi took three wickets each to bowl out Swindon A for 190 in reply.

James Mann’s 105 was in vain for Swindon United Churches as they lost by eight wickets against Chippenham 2nd.

Three wickets each for Chris Hallett and Aaron Merryweather meant Churches were bowled out for 198 and Merryweather then bludgeoned an unbeaten 104 to lead his side to victory inside 33 overs of their reply.

DIVISION THREE

GOATACRE 2nd continued their perfect start to the season with a six-wicket success at Keevil.

Christopher Watchman and Dan Wiseman took three wickets each as the hosts were dismissed for 138 and Matt Wilkins (42) led the Goats’ response, as they got over the winning line inside 29 overs to finish on 139-4.

DIVISION FOUR

COMBE Down maintained their strong start at the top of the table with six-wicket victory away at Corsham 3rd.

Spinner Simon Elliman (3-26) stalled Corsham’s progress after a solid start before Clive Hulbert (3-28) and Jack Stansfield (4-12) saw them collapse to 163 all out. Ed Vickery top scored with 38.

In reply, Combe openers Andrew Hulbert (73) and Ramkumar Vijayakumar (43) built a solid platform for the target to be reached on 165-4 in 24 overs.

A narrow one-wicket win at their Devizes counterparts kept Royal Wootton Basset 2nd level on points with the leaders.

The hosts scored 205-9 off their 45 overs, Darren Fisher taking three wickets, before Euan Burke’s 47 helped Bassett scrape over the line off the penultimate ball of the game. Devizes’ George Dunford took three wickets.

DIVISION FIVE

ANOTHER commanding batting performance saw Melksham claim an eight-wicket win away at Bathford.

Having won the toss and electing to field, Melksham were able to restrict the flow of runs relatively well as Andy Footner bowled a remarkably economic spell to concede just five runs of his nine overs.

However, Bathford batsmen Paul Merrett (83) and Adam Brunton (69) showed patience and application to get their side to a respectable 198-4.

Daniel Carpenter (96 not) and Wallis (75) began their response cautiously before accelerating the scoring after reaching their half-centuries.

Wallis departed after a brilliant opening partnership of 159 as Carpenter hung around to finish the job, and end just short of a maiden century.

DIVISION SIX

BLUNSDON barely scrapped past 100 runs as they lost by eight wickets at home to Heytesbury & Sutton Veny 2nd.

The efforts of Sam Butler (4- 41) and A Hampson (4-18) saw the hosts bowled out for 105 and although Heytesbury lost both openers for ducks, they easily chased down the target inside 28 overs.
