MIDWEEK CRICKET: Purton B halt local rivals Lydiard


LYDIARD Millicent’s recent good form took a temporary halt as they lost by 30 runs at Purton B in Division Three of the Monahans Midweek Cricket League.

Rob Allen made 34 runs as Purton B reached 115-9, Hobbs taking 3-23.

A. Lee returned figures of 3-3 as Lydiard’s top order collapsed, so it was left to Aston Boothe (10) and teenager Jack Beresford (23 not out) to bring some respectability to the score as Lydiard closed on 85-9.

Anchor secured their first win of the season as they defeated Nationwide 2nds by 14 runs.

Dave Bott top-scored on 24 as Anchor ended on 94-8, Paul Weaver taking five wickets for the building society lads.

The Nationwide reply never got going and only Joe Perkins (24) stood out as they were dismissed for 80, Dunne taking 5-30.

Haydon Wick’s push for promotion took a tumble at the hands of RWE npower as they were all out for 98.

Only Sam Jenkins (24) managed to handle the RWE attack as Dunmore and J. Crowther took three wickets each.

After losing four cheap wickets, Lewies (23) and Banerjee (32 not out) steadied the ship and RWE eventually finished on 101-5.

In Division One, Anis Ali cracked 79 as Wootton Bassett A completed the double over Intel.

Bassett ended on 212-6 and Intel were never close despite a brave effort, ending on 138-9 with Nicholson scoring 40.

In-form Andy Compton hit an unbeaten 50 as Compton PH comfortably reached 93-3 in disposing of the White Horse, after they made a meagre 92-9.

In a rearranged fixture, Wootton Bassett A scored 115-7 before keeping the White Horse at bay on 96-8.

There were walkovers for Nationwide and Stratton as their opponents Purton A and NALGO respectively were unable to field teams.

In Division Two, Wanborough beat United Churches by 58 runs to leap to the top of the league. while the KC Club defeated Wootton Bassett B by just three runs.

Wroughton Wranglers saw off Alcatel-Lucent by 49 runs, while Sevenfields’ miserable season continued with a four-wicket defeat at Nomads.

In Division Four, Paul Parsons chipped in 64 as The Dolphin made 152-3 against Wroughton, before their opponents were restricted to 113-7.

Ashbury made 86-9 as they defeated Motorola in a low-scoring match. Mike Francis claimed 3-8 as Motorola fell short on 72-9.
