SWINDON will be hoping to end their season on a high with a visit to Marshfield, writes CHRIS SMITH.
Having again suffered a loss of form late on in the season, captain Darren Beasant wants to finish the campaign on a positive note.
He said: “It would be nice to finish with a win and end the season with a good performance both collectively and individually.
“It’s always nice to go into the new season remembering a good score or a few wickets so that’s something that the lads will be aiming for.”
There still remains a slim chance that Swindon could finish second, but this is not something Beasant is particularly concerned with.
He said: “Obviously it would be nice to be runner-up two years in a row but on reflection I think we’d have taken third really.
“Biddestone are looking strong and I can’t see them losing. We just want to play some good cricket and enjoy our last game.”
Swindon will take the opportunity to give some of the club’s many promising youngsters a chance to experience first team cricket.
He said: “We’ve got a very young second team and this is a great time for them to come in.
“We’ve had a few of them in the side for the last few weeks and they haven’t looked out of their depth.
“It’s important for us to have them in the side because they’re a big part of the club’s future, and are going to form the nucleus of the side for the next decade or so.”
Fifteen-year-old John Soars, 17-year-old Dean Williamson and 16-year-old wicketkeeper George Penfold will all be hoping to impress.
Lechlade need a miracle at home to Rockhampton.
Paul Rowley’s side are all but relegated and only a series of fortuitous results elsewhere can save them.
