MALMESBURY edged a thriller against struggling Calne, as seamer Robert Gillespie claimed five important wickets.
Gillespie’s haul included the scalp of last man out Glen Robinson, who fell with the visitors needing just four more runs for a crucial victory.
Gillespie ended with 5-59, four of which were clean bowled, to help protect a modest total.
Batting first, Malmesbury had earlier relied on the good recent form of James Pearce-Smith to post a competitive target.
The opener has been scoring runs for fun in the past few weeks, and he continue that tremendous streak with 64 before he was dismissed by Daniel Knight.
Other than Pearce-Smith, however, very few of the Malmesbury top order hung around long enough to make a significant impression on the scorebook.
Nick Jones added 24 and Gillespie 28, but the hosts were bowled out inside their alloted 45 overs.
However, in reply Calen could not quite get past the finish line, despite getting mighty close.
Sean Adams made 56, and one or two others contributed, before Gillespie settled things in the home side’s favour.
