SWINDON captain Paul Paginton admitted could take his side a while to find their groove when they face Biddeston tomorrow - if the game beats the weather.

The County Ground side’s season opener against Stroud fell victim to the weather last weekend, and the club have been desperately short of practice due to rain interfering with their net sessions in recent weeks.

But Paginton and his players can’t wait to finally get their Glos/Wilts Division season underway.

“Our game was called off pretty early last week, which, although it was disappointing was the right decision,” he said.

“But now we can’t wait to get going because we all love playing cricket.

“I am sure some of our guys will go into this game a little undercooked and a bit rusty, but I am sure we will be okay if it does go ahead.

“The other teams are in the same boat at the moment, and it will take a while for everyone to get up to speed.

“I am not sure what condition the pitch is in at the moment or whether we will be able to get out for a game, but if we do it will be a green pitch which is difficult to bat on, but our bowler Will Nicholls will enjoy the conditions I am sure.”

While the wet weather is expected to continue for the next couple of weeks at least, Paginton is hopeful it will not cause too many problems throughout the season.

“We began our preparation for this season way back in January, and the weather hadn’t been too bad until the last couple of weeks.

“But then the season came around and the rain came and that has made things very difficult for us, hopefully it will not continue for too long and wash out any more games.

“It is frustrating because there was some good weather at the end of March and we may even have been able to play then, but it is just unfortunate and typical the weather came when it did.”

In the Wiltshire Division, Lechlade and Malmesbury will be hoping to get their seasons going at the second time of asking when they host Devizes and Great Bedwyn respectively, while Nationwide House take on Wootton Bassett.
