GOATACRE batsman Ed Kilbee fired an impressive 73 to set Wiltshire on their way to the Minor Counties Trophy Knock Out Cup semi-finals as they beat Devon by five wickets.

The quarter-final victory sets up a clash with Staffordshire on July, and opener Kilbee’s knock from 109 balls laid the platform for success before Joe Breet added 82 to guide Wiltshire home.

Wiltshire put Devon into bat on a slightly damp pitch at Corsham, and the south west county made an excellent start with Rob Woodman, 52 and Rob Holman, 39 putting on 108 for the first wicket in 15 overs.

Wiltshire conceded 28 wides in the first innings, but the spinners soon brought some control to the proceedings with Mukesh Bhatt taking 2-17 in his 10 overs and Tom Bowler 1-37.

Devon closed their innings on 258-9 thanks to 53 from Matt Thompson, while the other successful Wiltshire bowlers were Tahir Afridi, Owen Alsop and Ashur Morrison.

Kilbee combined with Jayden Levitt to put on 96 for the first wicket inside 20 overs, but Levitt and Steve Bullen both fell in the same over before Kilbee and Breet moved the score on to 159.

After Kilbee was caught by Matt Thompson off the bowling of Chris Bradley, Langford and Breet put on 71 in 11 overs and Wiltshire finally passed the Devon score with one over to spare totalling 259-5.

The county have stuck with the same side for their next match, when they take on Berkshire in the Minor Counties Championship at Corsham starting on Sunday, with play starting at 11am each day.
