GOATACRE’S adventure in the National Village Knockout Cup came to an end this afternoon following a 62-run defeat to visitors Reed.

Craig Gibbens’ troops had been hoping to secure a place in the final at Lord’s, but fell in the semi.

After winning the toss, Goatacre elected to bowl and restricted the visiting Hertfordshire side to 225 all out.

However, the hosts struggled in their run chase, losing wickets at regular intervals.

Gibbens’ men found themselves bowled out for 163, some 62 runs short of the target, with five overs remaining.

Goatacre have previously made appearances at Lord’s in the same competition in 1988 and 1990, winning on both occasions.
