JONELLE Price leads the Wiltshire charge on day one of the Blenheim Palace Horse Trials.

Last year’s winner of the CIC*** for eight-and-nine-year-old horses leads the class again on day one.

This year she is riding The Marley and Me Syndicate’s Cloud Dancer II, an eight-year-old whom Price bought with Jacky Green as a just-broken four-year-old.

The Marlborough-based duo picked up just 33.2 penalty points to put her top on the first day of the dressage stage, with the cross country stage to come on Saturday.

“He’s smart – he moves very well, especially for an event horse, so I feel a bit of a responsibility to produce something a bit special,” said Price.

“He’s no Ferrari across country but he gives it his best – a few seconds in hand would be handy.”

Her husband, Tim, is in tied 12th place on Xavier Faer after day one with 49 points, while fellow Wiltshire-based rider King is in 16th place on Mo Cuiske.

Harry Meade, on Away Cruising, and Harris, on Cooley Lord Lux, go on day two tomorrow.

Lower Stanton St Quintin-based rider Kitty King lies eighth in the CCI*** event after scoring 44.4 on day one of the dressage stage on Ceylor.

German Sandra Auffarth leads the field on Ispo, with Membury-based Flora Harris lying in 13th place on Bayano.

Tim Price, on The Court Jester, Beanie Sturgis, on Lebowski, and Laura Collett, on Pamero 4, are still to go on the second day of dressage tomorrow.
