GREAT Britain’s Gemma Tattersall leads the way in the CIC*** event at Barbury Castle going into the weekend.

With the dressage stage of the competition coming to a close, Tattersall, who went last on day two, secured a score of 38.2 to put her into the overnight lead.

Fresh from her call up to represent Great Britain at Rio on Tuesday, the 31-year-old has capped off a memorable week with a fine performance on Quicklook V, with 2.7 of an advantage over her nearest competitor.

Italian Stella Benatti had lead the way after day one with a score of 42.2, but now lies tied fourth after Pippa Funnell, on Billy the Biz, and Oliver Townend, on Armada, went into second and third place respectively.

Laura Collett lies highest of the local interest with the Lambourn-based rider lying in sixth place on a score of 42.6, while Tom McEwen, who is based out of Sir Mark Todd’s Swindon yard, dropped down to ninth place after day two.

Meanwhile, Marlborough-based Tim Price is in 11th place on Bango, with Highworth-based Australian Paul Tapner occupying 15th and 16th place respectively on Kilronan and Vanir Kamira.

Fellow Marlborough-based Kiwi Andrew Nicholson, who has won the event for the last four years on the now-retired Avebury, sits in 17th place on Jet Set IV.

In the CIC** event, New Zealand rider Christopher Burton leads the way in both Section C and Section D on Santano II and Nobilis 18 respectively after the dressage stage to add to his joint-fourth place standing in the three star class.

It’s been a fantastic start to the weekend for Purton-based rider Neil Spratt after he finished in second place behind Burton in the Novice Section F on First Lancer.

Marlborough-based Price and fellow Kiwi and Marlborough resident Jesse Campbell claimed first and second respectively in the Novice Section H.

The third leg of the Event Rider Masters begins this morning with the dressage stage kicking off at 8.30am.
