SUPERMARINE manager Dave Webb admits he has something of a soft spot for Shortwood ahead of the teams’ Division One South & West meeting tomorrow.

The clash - which is in severe doubt after heavy rain this week - will see Webb go head to head with United boss John Evans once more, having previously faced him in the Hellenic League last year when Webb was boss at Highworth.

And the Meadowbank side, conquerors of Marine in the Red Insure Cup last month, also contain former South Marston favourites Luke Gullick and Tom King.

Webb said: “I always like going to Shortwood, they are a good club who did exceptionally well last year and finally got their reward by winning the Hellenic.

“All the games we had when I was at Highworth were keenly contested.

“I don’t think they will be in any danger of relegation this season, it will be more about getting acclimatised to the level.

“They’ve brought in some new players such as Luke Gullick and a lot of their players like Tom King have Southern League experience.

“They are a determined group who never know when they are beaten.”

Supermarine are targeting their eighth league victory in a row but they could be denied that opportunity by the wet weather.

Webb added: “I know they have had a lot of rain down there but hopefully the game is on. It’s looking extremely doubtful.

“We’re keen to play as we haven’t had any games this week and we don’t have anything next week either.”

Should the game go ahead, Webb will be without the services of Dan Wallington (groin), who is still a week away from fitness.

Midfielder Rob Dean has been training after receiving treatment for an ankle problem and is rated 50-50.

Josh Parsons and Jon Steedman are both expected to recover from knocks in time to figure.

Cirencester have no game this weekend as their league encounter with Merthyr has been postponed, because the Welsh side have FA Trophy commitments.

Meanwhile, Southern Premier outfit Chippenham are facing up to life without their skipper after Scott Rogers left the club this week.

The former Eastleigh man moved to Hardenhuish Park in the summer but has left due to work commitments.

Rogers made 16 appearances for Chippenham, scoring once in the FA Cup first qualifying round win over Mangotsfield in September.

The Bluebirds, who travel to St Albans tomorrow afternoon, will also be without Brandon Barnes who has switched to Paulton on a month-long loan.

Speaking about Rogers, Chippenham boss Nathan Rudge said: “It's always a disappointment to lose a player, but he has to do what he has to do and so have we.

“It's only just happened so we haven't thought about bringing anyone in. We've got plenty of midfielders.

“We're always looking for good players but it's whether they want to join us for the right reasons.”
