QUEENSFIELD United celebrated their return from a two-month break from competitive action by crushing Swiss Chalet Rangers 6-1 in the Swindon & District League Premier Division.

United hadn’t played a game since November due to fixture clashes and the inclement weather, but they didn’t show any signs of ring-rust against a depleted Swiss Chalet side.

Shaun Close netted a hat-trick for the hosts, while Kelvin Spencer grabbed a brace and Roger Mundy also got on the scoresheet.

Swiss Chalet seemed helpless to prevent Queenie from running rampant, with centre-half Kelvin McCarthey filling in as goalkeeper, and Lewis Polden’s effort was scant consolation for the visitors.

Elsewhere in the division, Fratellos maintained their 100 per cent record but they were made to work for their 1-0 victory over Village Inn.

Dave Slattery got the goal that separated the two sides, and Fratellos have now won each of their nine matches in the league so far this season.

In Division One, Bassett Bulldogs edged past Swindon Spitfires in a seven-goal thriller.

Bassett opened the scoring through Chris Edwards, only for Spitfires to equalise almost immediately.

Edwards wasted no time in restoring the hosts’ advantage but again Spits hit back.

The game of cat and mouse continued in the second half, with Wayne Matthews firing Bassett back in front only for their guests to level, before Dave Lazenby popped up in the final minute to snatch all three points for the home side.

Chiseldon were no match for a rampant Ramsbury, as the winners sauntered their way to a 5-0 victory.

Scott Kimber posted a brace and there were also goals for Ashley Bowes, Jordan Allen and Jeremy Martin as Ramsbury dominated throughout.

Old Town made it 11 wins out of 11 in Division One as they eased past Ferndale 6-0 away from home.

Chris Woods smashed a hat-trick for the visitors, Dean Davoile got two and Steve Nesbitt also registered as Old Town extended their lead at the top of the table.

Tap & Barrel bounced back from last weekend’s home defeat to Bassett Bulldogs with a resounding 4-0 victory at Larry’s Plaice.

Two goals from Gary Davis set the away side up nicely, and three points were secured thanks to further efforts from Paul Blackford and Frank Cullen.

Darryl Kemble’s goal was not enough for a depleted Fox & Hound side, who lost 2-1 at Sportz Central. Alisto Pires scored both of the home side’s goals.
