BLYSKAWICA held table-toppers Wilts Calne Town to a 2-2 draw in the Wiltshire Premier and were unlucky not to take all three points.

Tom Kopinski got Blyskawica off to the best possible start when he latched onto a through-ball and calmly slotted past the keeper.

Jordan King narrowly escaped a red card when he brought down a Calne player outside the box, but was saved by the presence of a fellow defender covering alongside him.

However, Calne took the resulting free kick quickly as the wall was being lined up, and that allowed the Bremhill View side to level.

Blyskawica restored their advantage soon after with a cross from the right flank by Matt Ford being volleyed in by Ash Chapman.

After the break Calne continued to play directly and from one of these long balls, indecision in defence resulted in the equaliser.

Blyskawica might have won it at the death but Jeremy Hope sent his header just over the bar.

Boss Phil Trueman said: “It was fitness that did us, but I’m not going to moan about drawing with top of the league especially as we’ve only played three times in over a month.

“It was a good result for us because you could see we hadn’t played in a while.

“I think we should be doing well against these sorts of teams because I now have lots of players coming back. That has shown after Christmas because we’ve won two and drawn one.

“Hopefully we can do something when we go to Bradford this weekend.”

Two points dropped for Calne did second-placed Purton Reserves a favour, as they thrashed Marlborough 6-0 to reduce the gap at the top to just eight points.

Albert Dearing’s men have two games in hand and the Red House chief may want to revise his pre-Christmas prediction that the title race is over.

Elsewhere, Wroughton were well-beaten 5-2 at home by Chippenham Park, while struggling Beversbrook were thumped 5-1 by Devizes Reserves.

In Division One, Madames kept their stranglehold on top spot with a 3-0 win at Wootton Bassett Dev.

Ashton Keynes won 3-0 against Intel and AFC Wroughton lost 4-2 at Marshfield, while Chippenham Park Reserves drew 2-2 with Wilton.
