SWINDON Supermarine look set to be rocked by a triple departure after Hungerford raided the Webb’s Wood Stadium for new recruits.

Strikers Josh Parsons and Ash Edenborough and midfielder Chris Taylor have held talks with the Southern Premier new boys and the Adver understands all three deals are close to completion.

Should the trio make the trip down the M4, it would be a huge blow for boss Dave Webb, who voiced fears that players would leave for the promoted Crusaders three weeks ago.

Parsons and Edenborough hit 46 league goals between them in Division One South & West in 2012/13 and the latter won both players’ player of the year and supporters’ player of the year at Marine’s recent end-of-season awards ceremony.

Taylor, who re-signed for Marine in October, had only intended to play 15 games at South Marston in order to gain full fitness following a serious knee injury, but ended up staying the whole campaign despite interest from Hungerford and Oxford.

Parsons admits he has not put pen-to-paper at Bulpit Lane but the former Highworth man - who also played for Webb at the Elms - feels a switch to Bobby Wilkinson’s side would be a logical move.

“I haven’t signed any forms yet but I’ve spoken to their manager a few times and it looks a good option,” said Parsons.

“It’s another league up to Marine, it’s a step in the right direction and a good challenge.

“It will be a challenge to get in the team if I do decide to sign there, but I don’t have a problem fighting for my place.”

That said, Parsons has not closed the door on a return to Swindon’s highest-ranked non-league club.

“I’d never rule out Marine,” he said. “It’s a great club with great fans and I enjoy working with the manager - I’ve been with Webby for a few years and he’s the one that took me there.

“If things don’t work out then there’s always the chance I could go back there.”

Boss Webb holds out little hope that he will be able to convince Parsons, Edenborough and Taylor to remain at the Webb’s Wood Stadium.

“I’m resigned to the fact I’m going to lose them. We can’t compete on a financial level with Hungerford,” he said.

“It’s disappointing to get a side together and then see some of your best players move on, but they are in a better league and if the boys want to chance their arm then we have to let them get on with it.

“They are three big players for us, but if it happens then we will just have to move on.”

Marine have confirmed they will entertain League Two new boys Newport in a friendly on Wednesday, July 10 (7.30pm).

The South Marston club will also face New College in a friendly on Tuesday, July 23 (7.30pm), in addition to pre-season contests against Gloucester City and Swindon Town.

Meanwhile, Chippenham have signed midfielder Harley Purnell, 24, from Yate.
