JEFF Roberts said he was happy with a point away at Thame given the depleted state of his squad.

Bassett had Jordan Roberts, Lee Stevens, Shaun Carter and Tyler Sheppard all unavailable for their Hellenic League Premier Division trip to Oxfordshire and were forced to give a few first-team debuts to reserve players including Kalum Youngsam.

In a 0-0 draw that featured few chances Bassett were forced to defend for much of the opening 45 minutes before playing with a bit more expanse in the second half.

Dan Lardner came closest for Bassett after the break, testing hosts’ ‘keeper Lee Farrow with a stinging volley.

Roberts was satisfied with the performance, which given the paucity of his squad should be viewed as a decent result.

“There wasn’t a lot of chances for both sides, we had two suspended and couple injured from Wednesday.

“We held our own in the first half and then changed it in the second half,” Roberts told the Adver.

“We could have sneaked all three. I’m happy with a point, you could see from the first half both sides were cutting into each other, so it’s a good point.

“You’re asking a lot of some players who came in. We asked to them give us 100 per cent and they held their own.

“To come away with a point against a team who were seventh or eighth, we competed well with them, praise to the lads come in.”

Bassett’s season is pretty much over as they are well clear of relegation and sat comfortbaly in lower mid-table.

This week they play Cheltenham on Monday then Bracknell on Wednesday, two games Roberts is hoping to pick up six points from.

The Cheltenham game could serve as precursor to Bassett’s Floodlit Cup quarter-final against the same opposition, the Corinium side’s remaining silverware interest this season.
