NEW College are looking to end their Hellenic League campaign with a bang when they make the short journey to Purton.

The Webb’s Wood Stadium side bring the curtain down on a tricky season which has seen them lose manager Rob Hopkins due to work commitments and former chief Mark Teasdale return for the final few outings of the year.

But Academy Director Ian Howell wants to finish with a victory over seventh-placed Purton.

“I want us to finish the season on a high,” Howell said. “We haven’t always been able to get the results we have wanted this year.

“But recently we have been putting in some good performances and that is what I expect at Purton.”

Following their 3-1 win over Division One West basement boys Letcombe last week, New College will welcome back Sam Loft after he missed that success to attend a scholarship trials day to spend the next part of his education in the United States.

“Sam has got the potential to go over to America next year,” Howell said. “There is a chance for a place in either South Carolina, California and Oklahoma.

“He went for a trial for a scholarship last week and it is a great opportunity for him to further his education.

“We normally have three or four players who get this chance each.”

Once tomorrow’s derby meeting is out of the way, Howell will sit down with Teasdale to discuss his vision for the future.

“We need to see what he wants to do,” he said. “We will look at all the coaching staff and see their availability and commitment.

“Some may want to just focus on our under 18s and some will want to step up and work the Hellenic side.

“There will also be coaches, like myself, who will float between the three teams that we have.”

With New Colege finishing their season tomorrow, Purton have one more match to play at North Leigh United on Tuesday, April 29.

Chris Pethick’s men could finish the campaign in fifth place should they win their remaining two matches, however, they enter the derby match on the back of a 3-2 loss at struggling Carterton.
