SUPERMARINE Sport’s manager Peter Milhench was pleased with his players response in the Wiltshire Football League as he saw his team secure a comfortable 3-1 win away to Malmesbury Victoria FC.

After being held to a 2-2 draw against newly promoted Sarum Youth FC, the week before, Milhench was looking for a better performance and it started well when Liam Kearns opened the scoring 20 minutes into the game.

A mistake in midfield from the visitors led to Malmesbury pulling the match back level five minutes later but Supermarine Sport responded immediately.

In the next attack Dean Hughes was brought down in the box and Keiran Jennings converted to restore the visitor’s lead.

Then just before half-time Hughes went on a run from his own half and found the corner from 18-yards out to double Marine’s advantage.

The scoreline could have increased in the second half had it not been for a fine performance from the Malmesbury goalkeeper.

“We have had some really rubbish results in the last couple of weeks,” said Milhench.

“The week before we had not played well and only got a draw against a newly promoted side so I knew the performance this week had to be a lot better.

“I think we could have scored more in the second half but their goalkeeper was having a very good game and was stopping everything.”

Early league leaders Ludgershall Sports FC were not troubled when they travelled to Trowbridge Town FC and claimed a 3-0 win.

Corsham Town FC Reserves doubled their points tally with an emphatic 8-0 win over Wilts Calne Town FC.

Meanwhile, in the North Berkshire League, Jamie Hopgood and Mike van der Mortel scored for Faringdon Town as they began their campaign with a 2-2 with Dorchester Town - who had Marlon Jones and Josh Nicholls on target.

Dan Oyston hit a hat-trick, Fraser Bruce bagged two and Jack Deaman also scored as Faringdon reserves opened their Division Two season with an emphatic 6-1 win at Saxton Rovers reserves for whom Mike Smith netted.

A Chris Benson penalty for Faringdon Town ‘A’ was cancelled out by an Andy Dick strike for Kennington Athletic as the two sides fought out a 1-1 draw in Division Four.
