SWINDON Spitfires United started their Wiltshire Women’s League campaign with a 3-3 draw against last season’s runners up FC Chippenham.

Both teams started brightly and it was United that opened the scoring as Zoe Gleaves through ball found Lisa Curtis.

Her shot was parried into the path of Caroline Hook to slot home in the fifth minute, but that goal was cancelled out just before the interval by Chippenham.

Chippenham took the lead on 61 minutes after a miss placed pass found the striker who slotted past Shona Hanlon.

On 74 minutes Chippenham's third came after United failed to clear a Chippenham corner.

However, heads didn't drop and Spitfires continued to push forward and three minutes from time Mel Bristow worked hard and slotted past the stranded keeper.

Two minutes later, United's perseverance paid off after Michelle Maull-Hutfield lifted the ball over the Chippenham defence allowing Bristow to breakthrough and score the equaliser.

Spitfires’ new development side got their league campaign off to a winning start with a 2-0 success at Trowbridge Wanderers.

Despite dominating the game Spitfires were wasteful in front of goal. Anna Higgins came closest in the first half with an effort that came back off the post and then had a goal ruled out by the offside flag.

Spitfires eventually found the net a minute after the interval, Hannah Gulliver finishing at the far post after some good work by Charlotte Robinson.

The second goal came in the 67th minute with an absolute screamer from Higgins whose shot on the run from 20 yards out nearly took the net off.

HIGHWORTH Town Ladies started their season off with a 4-0 win at Melksham Town. Mariana Claus fired the visitors into the lead after she ran on to a fine ball from midfield to open the scoring.

A cross from Sarah Rayworth saw Alex Baker break through on goal to smash home a second for the Worthys.

Before half time, Claus bagged her second after Sadie Harrison and Shannon Gibbs cleared the Highworth lines allowing the goalscorer to spin past the Melksham defence to net.

Baker completed her brace before the end as she rifled home a shot from the edge of the Melksham area.
