SWINDON Town have proved they are not a selling club in the eyes of the man who was technically the biggest departure from the County Ground this summer.

Louis Thompson’s sale and consequent loan back was the only departure of a player from Mark Cooper’s first team squad this season.

And the player believes his own deal is an indicator of Swindon’s ambition to make a success of this season.

Rumours of interest swirled around his teammates throughout the transfer window and Massimo Luongo talked after his start for Australia on Monday night about offers for him coming in January.

Thompson feels he is part of something special with Swindon at the moment, with all of his teammtes capable of playing at a higher level in the future. However, the 19-year-old is adamant the club is focused on achieving something this season by hanging on the players they have.

“I think it’s a very good chance a few of the boys here will have offers come in,” he said.

“Like I say it (Swindon Town) could have been seen as a selling club, but I think in this window alone have they have proved they are looking to get into the Championship and that will give the fans confidence.

“We’ve got a real good bunch, it’s the best bunch of players I’ve ever been a part of and I enjoy coming into training every day and working towards that goal of getting promotion.

“When it comes down to talent I think they’re a very talented bunch, I think a lot of them will play higher in their careers, if not all of them.”

Thompson himself was extremely keen to stress his loyalty remains with Swindon whilst he is still at the club.

“My main focus is to carry on playing well. Me playing well and the rest of the team playing well will ultimately win us games. I think it doesn’t look bad if the club I’ve been loaned back to gets promoted,” he added.

“I think the Norwich City fans would look brightly upon that. I’m looking forward to the challenge of impressing them as well but I’m not putting any additional pressure on myself. I believe in myself and hopefully I can start churning out some good performances.

“I’m still a red for the rest of this season and I’ll continue to play like a red.

“I think the fans know already that I’m not going to lose heart or I’m not going to play any less than I did before I signed (for Norwich).”
