SWINDON Supermarine boss Dave Webb hopes the FA Cup can galvanise his squad as they look to rectify a below-par start to the season.

Marine’s 2-0 defeat at home to Larkhall Athletic on Tuesday was their fifth loss in eight Southern League Division 1 South & West games this term.

Webb’s side now turn their attention to Cup duties and they could not wish for a bigger incentive than the potential scalp of opponents AFC Totton.

Marine were thrashed 6-1 by Totton in the league last month and the two sides will go at it again at Testwood Stadium on Saturday.

“We all know the importance of Saturday,” said Webb.

“We need to start winning matches. We’ve got four wins from nine and that’s not good enough.

“With what we’ve achieved over the last couple of years, it’s been well below what we’d expect so far.

“We all have to take responsibility, myself, my staff and the players and look to put things right.

“But I know the character I have in this squad and I’m confident that we will get a reaction on Saturday.”

Despite being humbled so heavily in their last meeting against the Stags, Webb says this weekend’s rematch holds no fear for his troops.

In fact, Marine could not wish for a better time to travel back to Southampton as Totton lost both their league matches this week.

“We’ve played them once already this season and we all know what happened. That’s still fresh in the memory,” added Webb.

“We had a bad night and it was really disappointing but I’ve got no doubt that all the lads are looking forward to the challenge of getting back down there.

“If you’ve got anything about you as a player you can’t wait for the chance to put a result like that right.

“It’s going to be a tough game but I know what happened last time won’t happen again.”

Skipper Dave Bampton is in line to return after serving a three-match suspension but new signing Luke Abrahart is unavailable.

Webb is also likely to be without injured duo Kyle Lapham and Bradley Gray.
