FORMER Town defender Alan Sheehan faces a fine from Bradford after being sent off for a punch on Raphael Branco in their 2-1 loss.

It was a game to forget for Sheehan. Not only did Bradford’s  close season signing from Notts County see his third-minute penalty well saved by Wes Foderingham, but he saw red in stoppage time as the home side's frustrations reached boiling point.

Bradford manager Phil Parkinson said: “It looks as if he has gone over and punched him. It is unacceptable if he has done that and he will be fined the maximum amount.”

The Bantams were looking to recover from their 3-1 home defeat against Yeovil last week.

The Bradford chief said: “It was a disappointing result last week, but we have spent a lot of time working with the players and the start was terrific and we were rewarded with a goal.

“We played a long way ahead of where we were last week, but we cannot keep conceding goals from set-plays.

“Four of the last five goals we have conceded have been from set-play situations. We are not helping ourselves.

“A lot of endeavour and courage went into our play, but all that goes out of the window when you defend the set-plays like we did.”

BRISTOL City powered to the top of the League One table with a 3-0 defeat of Doncaster, while Peterborough were knocked down into second after they were held to a goalless draw at home to Notts County.

Aaron Wilbraham, Mark Little and Kieran Agard were on target for the Robins at Ashton Gate as they claimed a third-straight success and remained unbeaten this term, while Rovers had Harry Forrester sent off.

The Posh were seeking a fourth victory on the trot but failed to break down a stubborn Magpies defence as County made it three road trips without defeat this season.

In third, MK Dons surged into a 5-0 lead at Barnsley thanks to goals from Benik Afobe, Samir Carruthers, Dele Alli, Will Grigg and Ben Reeves, but the home team did salvage some pride as Conor Hourihane bagged a brace late on and Devante Cole struck in stoppage time to make it 5-3.

Chesterfield were also in fine goalscoring form as Eoin Doyle hit a hat-trick and Sam Morsy netted in the closing stages of a 4-1 win over Scunthorpe at Proact Stadium.

There were just over 11,000 fans at the Ricoh Arena as Coventry beat Yeovil 2-1 with strikes from Reda Johnson and Simeon Jackson, while 19,122 turned up at Bramall Lane to watch Jamal Campbell-Ryce score the only goal of the game in Sheffield United's 1-0 defeat of Rochdale.

Crewe claimed their first points of the season when George Ray and Vadaine Oliver netted in a 2-1 home win over Port Vale, while fellow strugglers Colchester claimed a fine 2-0 success at Leyton Orient, with Sanchez Watt and Freddie Sears scoring after Magnus Okuonghae had seen red for the visitors.

Izale McLeod struck as Crawley beat Fleetwood 1-0, Preston had Jordan Hugill dismissed in a 3-1 defeat at Walsall and there were no goals in the game between Oldham and Gillingham.
