MALMESBURY Victoria manager Wayne Kibble may have been left nursing a hangover on Sunday morning but it was all worth it after his Wiltshire League side stunned Bracknell Town to reach the first round proper of the FA Vase.

The visitors to the Flying Monk Ground ply their trade in the Hellenic League Premier Division, but were sent packing.

And with Vics, who received a much-needed £800 in prize money from the tie, awaiting to discover who will be their opponents on November 1, Kibble and his players are basking in their incredible glory.

“Everyone of the boys were contenders for the man-of-the-match award,” a delighted Kibble said.

“I could not fault anyone, every single one of them gave their all.

“They had been waiting for this match for weeks - they were buzzing.”

Vics took the lead early on when Sam Parker finished off a nice corner move from the hosts and while Malmesbury pressed for a second before the interval, they had to wait until after the break to stretch their advantage.

Once again it was Parker who did the damage from another corner.

But the visitors, who play their football two levels higher than Malmesbury, hit back with goals from Shane Cooper-Clark and Jake White.

However, with 82 minutes on the clock, Sam Jenner broke down the wing, cut inside the Bracknell box and unleashed a shot that nestled inside the top corner.

“It was a fantastic goal,” Kibble said.

“The ball went past about eight or nine players without touching a single one of them.

“Then we had a nervy end - we played around 52 minutes in the second half all told, but we did it.”

The Vics, who resigned from the Hellenic League at the end of last term to ensure their very survival, were a surprise inclusion to this year’s FA Vase.

Normally teams competing in this competition play the equivalent of Hellenic Division One and higher, but the Vics had already applied for the Vase before their resignation and were allowed to remain in the tournament.

And now Kibble can’t wait to find out who Vics will be facing next month.

“I’m going to be on site all day Monday so hopefully someone will let me know who we have got,” the Vics boss said.

“Saturday was a great day, a much-needed profitable day for the club and it was great to see so many people there supporting Malmesbury boys.”
