SWINDON Spitfires maintained their winning start to the season in the Wiltshire Girls’ Under 16 League, beating Sarum Youth 9-0.

Spitfires broke the deadlock on 15 minutes when Megan Ricketts seized onto a poor clearance and slotted home from 10 yards out.

The second swiftly followed, Dani Granato reacting quickly from a corner to score from close range.

Spitfires made it 3-0 when Amy Connaghan intercepted a goal kick and drilled her shot home from 25 yards.

Spitfires scored two more goals before half-time. Firstly Charley Reynolds, then Connaghan stole in to tuck home a loose ball.

Spitfires made it 6-0 early after the break when a Charley Reynolds pass was picked up by Ricketts who turned her defender to strike the ball into the net.

Charley Reynolds made it 7-0 when she lobbed the keeper from 20 yards after intercepting a loose ball.

Captain Kat Reynolds then scored her first goal of the season with a fierce 20 yard unstoppable shot into the top right hand corner.

Spitfires had an opportunity to make it 9-0 when awarded a penalty, but Lizzie Parry’s strike was well saved by the Sarum keeper.

Very near the end the Spitfires finally struck their ninth when Kat Reynolds pass found Granato who took the ball across the box before finding enough space to drill her shot into the corner of the net.

In the same league FC Chippenham lost out 5-0 to Trowbridge at home.

In the Berkshire League, Spitfires U15’s lost out 2-1 at home to last season’s league runners-up Didcot.

Midway through the first half it was the visitors who broke the dead lock with a spectacular shot from 40 yards.

Ellie Scott played Helana Butcher in down the wing, who after beating a couple of defenders fired home past the Didcot ‘keeper at her near post to equalise for the Swindon side.

Didcot got their winner in the 60th minute, their forward pushing past the Spits’ defence to slot the ball under the legs of an advancing Jones.

Meanwhile Spitfires’ U14s went down 2-0 at Frome Youth. The game started brightly for the Spitfires, Emily Povey controlled a corner and shot well, only to see her effort come off the post and into the hands of the ‘keeper.

Spitfires kept pushing and saw another effort strike the post in a first half they dominated.

It was Frome who took the lead 15 minutes into the second half as a quick attack down the left wing ended with a rocket shot from the corner of the box giving Carla Heaton no chance in the Spitfires’ goal.

Spitfires still looked for the equaliser and a Tamzin Davis bullet shot from outside the box saw the Frome keeper pull off a fantastic save to push the ball over the bar.

With a couple of minutes left another Frome attack saw a well-placed shot nestle in the corner of the net and make the game safe at 2-0.

FC Chippenham’s under 14s lost out 8-1 at home to Frome Town In the Wiltshire Under 13s 9-a-side league Ashton Keynes saw off FC Chippenham 5-3 on the road.

Elsewhere Spitfires’ U13s went down 3-1 at Oxford City with Aimee Prinzi grabbing the consolation, but the U12s were 9-0 winners over Derry Hill United thanks to goals from Kayleigh Stanley (three), Kimberley Jackson (two), Shannon Lindsell (two), Grace Eagles and Shannon Whitely.

Highworth Town Juniors U12s almost pulled off a dramatic comeback draw but fell just short against Ashton Keynes.

Having gone 2-0 down against Ashton Keynes, Highworth rallied hard and brought it back to 2-2.

The game ended 3-2 to Ashton Keynes, but it was altogether an encouraging performance from the fledgling Worthys side.
