DJC MARLBOROUGH were put to the sword at the weekend as they were comfortably beaten 6-1 by Shield & Dagger.

A brace from Mark Connelly got the visitors off to the perfect start but afterMarlborough halved the deficit and looked on top of the game for a ten minute period, they failed to get an equaliser.

Mark Smith also netted a double to add to goals from Stuart Hodson and Jamie Ashby to secure the one-sided score-line and give Shield a first win in three league games to lift them up the table.

“I was very happy with the result and I think that we were on top for most of the match,” said Shield manager Andrew Kitchener.

“They had a couple of periods which gave them hope; like after they scored, they ran the game for ten minutes but after we scored the third, we could have gone on to score more.

“Mark Connelly scored the first two goals, which allowed us to settle, and Chris Ejsmont was solid at the back.

“We have had quite a tough start to the league, with a cup game with Village Inn inbetween, so it is nice to return to winning ways.

“We need to keep our heads level and play the games in front of us, and let the opposition worry about us.”
