SHRIVENHAM boss Sam Collier has gone one short of taking out an advert in the paper as he is ‘desperate’ for a striker to turn his side’s fortunes around.

Collier’s men have not won a league game since the end of August and despite pushing teams close it has been in the final third that they fail to take their chances.

The Barrington Park side are looking to bring in a new striker but that is proving difficult given the sides league position.

“I am desperate for a striker,” said Collier “I think we are a striker or centre half away from really competing to stay up and that is what I am desperately trying to get.

“But trying to attract players to a club that are struggling at the moment is a huge, huge ask.

“If there is anybody who knows of any, if they could ring the Adver and let me know that would be great.”

The task in hand does not get any easier for Shrivvy as they travel to second in the league Ascot tomorrow, but Collier has said that he won’t go there to park the bus.

“Saturday is the big one for us. We have Ascot away which is obviously a mountain to climb, but that is our bread and butter at the moment,” he added.

“We have got 20 games to sort it out and it needs to start sooner rather than later.

“Nobody is going to give us a prayer going to Ascot. They are favourites to win the league, they have a big budget and are scoring goals for fun.

“It will be a huge ask for us but we need to start winning games or certainly picking up points so we won’t be going there to keep the score down.

Meanwhile in Division One West, Purton are hosting Tuffley Rovers, with a fully fit squad and knowing that a win will lift them above their opponents.

“They are going to be hard to break down, but we go into the game on the back of two wins.

“Winning obviously breeds confidence and going on towards the Christmas period it would be good to go on a run.”

Fairford Town are also in action as they travel to Shortwood United and will be looking to put Tuesday night’s 8-1 defeat to North Leigh in the Flying Press Floodlit Cup behind them.

n SWINDON Supermarine are without a match this weekend, with their Evo-Stik League Southern Division One South & West clash against Sholing postponed due to the Hampshire side’s involvement in the FA Trophy.
