DAVE Webb isn’t entirely sure if he’ll be able to name a substitute when he takes his depleted Swindon Supermarine side to the team he’s tipping to win the Evo-Stik League Division One South and West.

But the Webb’s Wood Stadium boss says that his players can’t feel sorry for themselves and should savour a trip to second-in-the-table Merthyr Town.

Webb has bolstered his options by signing former Chippenham Town duo Jake Simpson and Corey King from Marlow.

However midfielder Simpson, who is the son of former Swindon Town star Fitzroy, is unavailable for the trip to Wales, but forward King, who scored four goals for Chippenham last term, is in line to make his Marine debut.

Luke Hopper is suspended and Josh Morse is away on holiday whilst Mark Flanagan, Joe Shepherd, Dave Bampton, Dan Martin, Ryan O’Hara, Ryan Stanners and Luke Abrahart are all injury doubts.

“That’s nine players right there and I really have never known anything like this,” said Webb.

“At the moment, my squad could be 11 or it could be 14. I know that I have 11 players but I really don’t know how many of those seven that are injured will come through treatment. Hopefully, we can get at least two or three.

“It’s obviously a tough situation and I’m happy that we’ve managed to bring in two good young players but Jake is away this weekend, meaning only Corey will come straight in.

“I know quite a lot about those two and they should be good additions to the squad.

“Merthyr are one of the best sides in this league and they’re the team I think should win it and probably will do this year.

“We’ve had them watched and they’re a good side, there’s no doubt about it. But it’s a great place to go and play football and you have to enjoy playing there.

“We’ve had some good games against them in this league over the last few years and the atmosphere will be good over there.

“We’ve got to be looking forward to it.”

Merthyr, who beat Marine in the play-offs in the last two years, are five points behind leaders Stratford Town and are unbeaten in 12.

Meanwhile, midfielder Gio Wrona, who had been dual-registered with Hellenic League Shrivenham, has joined Larkhall Athletic.
