FORMER Leeds United manager Dave Hockaday has put himself in the shop window as he looks for a return to coaching in the Football League after linking up with non-league Swindon Supermarine.

Speaking for the first time since having his contract terminated in August by Massimo Cellino, who was disqualified by the Football League and asked to resign as owner of Leeds yesterday, Hockaday told the Swindon Advertiser he was happy to be giving something back to Swindon.

The 57-year-old lasted just six games with the Yorkshire club but is now looking for a way back into coaching and is more than happy to be helping Supermarine until the right opportunity presents itself.

“It’s football, it is the business we are in and I am now looking to get back into the Football League,” he said.

“I now have a mountain of experience behind me, coaching is my passion that is what I want to do and that is where I am looking to get back into as soon as possible.

“So for the last few weeks I have been starting to network strongly and get my CV back out there and hopefully something will happen for me sooner rather than later.

“I’ll get back into the Football League at whatever level and then I’ll kick on and do what I do which is coaching.”

Hockaday, who lives just outside the town near Cirencester with his wife Geraldine, brought his Leeds side to the County Ground in pre-season and has been impressed by the form of Mark Cooper’s side so far this season.

“Thirty-two years I think I have been in Swindon and around the area now and I love it and it has been really good to me and if I can put something back in at any level then I will be happy to do that.

“I know Mark Cooper really well and when I was at Leeds the first phone call I made was to Mark Cooper to ask if I could bring Leeds to Swindon Town pre-season.

“That made me very proud because I knew I was helping out the club and they would make a lot of money from it.

“I don’t think they (Swindon Town) need any help at the moment they are doing very well.

“Mark allows me to come and watch some of their training sessions, I talk to him and if he wants to pick my brains then he can, if he gets anything out of them I’m not sure.

“They’re going along very well and playing some of the best football I have seen outside of the Championship and fingers crossed they get to the promised land this year.”
