DAVE Webb says Swindon Supermarine were made to pay for a lacklustre first-half performance after going down to a 2-1 defeat at Cinderford Town.

The visitors were 2-0 in arrears at the break but gave themselves a lifeline 20 minutes from time when Chris Taylor netted from the spot.

Marine dominated the remainder of the game and could have snatched a point at the death but Bradley Gray missed a glorious chance after racing in on goal.

“I’m very disappointed with the first-half. We knew it was going to be a tough game and we were not where we needed to be,” said Webb.

“They played well, pressed us hard and were first to every second ball.

“We had some strong words at half-time and, to be fair to the players, I think we repaid the favour in the second half and we much the better team.

“We got back into it when Chris scored the penalty and had a really good chance for Brad at the end as well but we just couldn’t quite take it.

“I think we probably should have got a point out of them but it wasn’t to be.”

After an even opening Ross Adams had Marine’s first chance but he headed over the top from a Josh Morse corner.

The visitors were then stunned by two goals in eight minutes as Cinderford took control of the contest before the break.

The home side continued to have the better of the play after the restart but Marine got back into it when Kieron Thomas brought down Corey King in the box.

Thomas was given his marching orders and Taylor reduced the arrears from the spot.

The visitors bossed the remainder of the match despite being reduced to ten men themselves when Ryan O’Hara was sent off, but they were left to rue several missed chances as their bid to snatch a draw came up short.
